This story has been written by Mum of 5-year-old Martha who has attended our Online Baby and Toddler Community for the past 3 years. Throughout this time Martha and Lily have struck up a beautiful friendship. Read more below about the impact of our online communities.
I think the first time Lily and Martha ‘met’ was through the Caring Matters Now Online Baby and Toddler group. They then met in person at the North East Regional Gathering at Newham Grange Farm this summer.
They hit it off straight away! Chatting on their own, playing in the role play area together and showing each other their different birthmarks and where they were on their body. Seeing them do this on their own, their own initiative, was a very special moment.
I’m sure for Martha to now have a friend her own age who has, as she calls it, her “special skin”, has really helped to build her confidence.
More recently the girls have met again through the online Baby and Toddler group. These sessions, alongside face-to-face events, have made it easier to stay in touch and foster their friendship despite geographical distance. When the girls draw pictures during the online session, they often draw one another! The sessions are great for us as parents to catch up too, receive advice, discuss the challenges, share encouragements, and see the girls growing in confidence. We hope to meet up with Lily’s family in person again soon!
