Bare Your Birthmark – Love the Skin You Are In

On 12 April 2026, six incredible women from our Caring Matters Now community took on the London Landmarks Half Marathon. Emily, Gemma, Helen, Jodi, Mia and Scarlett proudly ran in backless tops and shorts as part of our #BareYourBirthmark campaign.

For some of the team, it was the first time they had ever shown their birthmarks so publicly. Lining up at the start line, it wasn’t just about running the 13.1 miles – it was about visibility, courage, and showing the world that confidence comes from owning the skin you’re in.

Throughout the course, the team was met with cheers and encouragement, as well as heartfelt conversations when other runners and spectators asked about CMN, giving our team the opportunity to raise awareness of Congenital Melanocytic Naevus.

The atmosphere was electric, not just because of the scale of the event, but because of what our runners stood for. Each mile was powered by personal stories, lived experience, and a shared determination to create a world where no one feels the need to hide their visible difference.

It’s About Every Story

#BareYourBirthmark was always intended to be inclusive. While rooted in raising awareness of CMN, the campaign also recognises that visible difference can take many forms, including scars, skin grafts and surgical sites – all of which tell a story.

As our CEO, Jodi Whitehouse, explained:

This campaign is for every type of skin. Confidence doesn’t come from unmarked skin – it comes from owning the skin you’re in.

Raising an Incredible Fund

As well as raising awareness of CMN with thousands of people who lined the streets of London, the team has also raised an incredible £9,558 (and counting!) in sponsorship.

These vital funds will directly support the charity’s work of providing specialist support to anyone affected by CMN, raising awareness of the condition and playing a critical role in funding and facilitating pioneering research into effective treatments for CMN at the Francis Crick Institute in London.

Every donation helps ensure that no one in our CMN community feels alone on their journey. Donations can still be made on our dedicated fundraising page.

More Than a Run

#BareYourBirthmark wasn’t just about race day. It was about starting conversations, challenging perceptions, and inspiring others to embrace their own stories and love the skin you’re in.

Jodi shares: “To our six remarkable runners – thank you for your bravery, your openness, and your determination. You have not only completed a half-marathon, but you have also helped move our mission forward in the most visible and powerful way, far beyond the finish line.

And to everyone who donated, shared, cheered, and supported – thank you for helping us ensure that no one faces CMN alone.”
