How was the support group set up?
In 1998 Dr Atherton, the UK's leading medical Congenital Melanocytic Naevus (CMN) skin specialist, asked Jodi Unsworth, a CMN sufferer, to support those effected by CMN throughout the UK. At that time there was no support for CMN sufferers or parents of children suffering with the rare skin condition. Jodi, who was 18 years of age, started offering support, along with her parents, to those effected by CMN. It became obvious that those effected by CMN were desperately needing support, advice and to be in contact with others effected by the condition.
Jodi, who was born with CMN covering 80% of her body, knew of the physical and emotional strains associated with the condition, and therefore knew CMN support was extremely in need of. As a result, the Caring Matters Now Support Group was established in 2000.
Today the CMN support group has over 160 families registered, with 10 regional support groups in operation. A small team of those with CMN and parents of children with CMN run the support group throughout the UK. In the past 12 months, Caring Matters Now has become a registered charity.
The Caring Matters Now team hope you find the CMN website of great value.
Thank you.
