The Pink Chicks running for CMN!In a mad moment Susanna and Clare have decided to make a difference by completing 10 runs and raising £10,000 for Caring Matters Now over a 12 month period – starting June 6th 2009 with a 5k race. The girls thought they should start off gently! As well as the running they are having fun trying all sorts of other fundraising events – Cake sales, A Cinema film premiere and a “Getting ahead for Christmas” afternoon in November.

The Pink Chicks running for CMN!Elspeth, Susanna’s daughter and Clare’s goddaughter was born with Congenital Melnocytic Naevus (CMN’s). When Eslpeth was born, her CMN covered 25% of her body and the maternity staff had not seen anything like it before. Susanna and Jeremy left hospital with Elspeth with very little advice, waiting for an appointment at Great Ormond Street for the specialist there to tell them if Elspeth’s CMN’s were benign. Susanna and Jeremy experienced a roller coaster of emotions during the first few weeks after her birth. They were worried that they may lose her, struggled with their own and others’ reactions to her marks and the uncertainty of her future. At the same time Susanna and Jeremy were blessed with a new addition to their family, a beautiful baby girl, and a sister for William and Martha. Jeremy and Susanna now know that her CMN’s are benign and will hopefully remain so. They continue to be supported by GOSH with 6 monthly check ups.

Elspeth is now 4 and is a determined and confident child who takes a great delight in life! She is rather proud of her CMNs and calls them her “special Elspie marks”.

Susanna and Clare are very motivated to support the CMN research and are therefore aiming to raise £10,000 in 12 months! So far the girls have booked on to the following races:
