CARING MATTERS NOW COFFEE MORNING- SATURDAY 13th JUNE 2015 HOSTED BY ST.FILLAN's NURSERY IN SUPPORT OF YASMIN CALDWELL.

When Yasmin started nursery at age 3 in 2013, I provided her Key worker with the information booklet I had downloaded from the Caring Matters Now website. I spoke about things that they should look out for, how they could support her and the complications that could arise as a result of CMN. Her teacher Joanne immediately asked if there was anything the nursery could do to help, particularly as CMN is so rare. She couldn’t have been any more enthusiastic or caring.
I told her that Caring Matters Now was intending to hold annual Coffee Mornings to raise funds and awareness. Alongside the other fabulous members of nursery staff and a parent committee, Joanne organised an Afternoon Tea in the summer of 2014 and a Coffee Morning this year. Both events were hugely successful in terms of the money raised and the community spirit harnessed on the lead up to the events and on the days themselves. We were truly overwhelmed.

The nursery children made plants and other items to sell on the day. Parents, carers, grandparents, friends, neighbours and teachers all baked, donated raffle prizes and toys to be sold on the day. Older children volunteered to paint nails, make fresh popcorn, and help out on stalls. We guessed the name of the Teddy, tried to “beat the Goalie”, played tombola, threw pound coins at a huge bottle of whisky etc and raffled some amazing prizes! Both events raised in the region of £800!!!

We will be forever grateful for the wonderful experience Yasmin had at St.Fillan’s nursery and the support shown by everyone involved. We could never have imagined how much money would be raised or more importantly, the support and awareness of CMN and Caring Matters Now. With very special thanks to Mrs Higgins, Mrs Dempster, Mrs Stewart, Mrs Crompton and Mrs Henderson.

Yasmin is now a big school girl. And the quest for awareness continues…..
